Supporting Weaker and Specially-abled Individuals - SWaSIa

Supporting weaker and specially-abled individuals (SWaSIa) is our soul project. RUF aims to provide support and empower the underprivileged, and oppressed communities around us. We believe in the potential one can truly acquire when given opportunities to explore. SWaSIa provides assistance and support to specially-abled individuals by providing them for their needs. We believe it is our responsibility to uplift one another aiming towards a better world for us to live in.

RUF, in association with a Calicut-based organization named We Smile, engaged in providing meals for children with disabilities.

Our team provided spike boots for the students at the Karuna Speech and Hearing School in Calicut to participate in the specially-abled Athletic meet, held in December 2018. They were able to perform well in the event which held their spirits high.

The shivery winter made lives difficult for people living in temporary settlements in Gwalior. Under our program SWaSIa, RUF distributed blankets at colonies in DD Nagar, Gwalior. We are forever grateful to Sunday Friends and Friends of Belgium for the timely financial assistance. We were assisted and supported by Indian Air Force personnel on ground.

RUF had the opportunity to support a family to settle down comfortably during this lockdown period. An auto driver and her family consisting of her husband, and 3 children were in immense need of financial assistance to renovate their house. RUF helped them in renovating the kitchen. During the lockdown, we were able to provide them with a television through our TV Challenge for the uninterrupted education of children. Now with a roof above their heads and with proper education for their kids, the family is comfortably settled.

Our volunteers from the Central Zonal Committee visited the Welfare Trust Association, Ernakulam, an old age home and psycho-social center. We were fortunate to be with them on the occasion of their cheer and happiness.

Vishu is a festival of togetherness celebrating abundance and new hopes. Our team was able to provide financial support in the form of Vishu kits consisting of Vishukkodi and Vishukaineettam for senior citizens stranded due to lockdown in the district of Calicut whose stay was arranged by the District Collectorate, Calicut.

Support for Santhi

One of our team members, a young talent hailing from Chettikulangara, is diagnosed with whole-body paralysis due to Muscular Dystrophy from early childhood. Our team compiled and facilitated the sale of her CDs of devotional songs at the Chettikulangara Devi Temple Bharani festival. The Bharani festival at the temple is quite popular and a huge crowd gathers in celebration. RUF brought about 1000 CDs and set in a campaign where the volunteers met almost 3000 people introducing her CDs. A single evening of campaigning was enough to popularize her art among the crowd. After the successful campaign, all the proceeds from the sale were handed over to her.
